I saw your thread on askubuntu.com about ata2 error:
At the end, you said it was because of a broken CD Drive. I am experiencing a very similar problem (it boots but very slowly after “giving up” connecting ata2) and in my case, ata2 is not connected to anything. CD Drive bay is just out in the open.
How did you solve it?

This is very old question and that laptop is dead. The DVD drive on mine died for some reason.
